Who We Are

Citizens for Sun Protection is an organization of parents, cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, business advocates and community leaders who believe there is need for comprehensive sunscreen standards that require broad-spectrum protection from harmful UV rays. Specifically, we support:

Stronger FDA Standards: The Food and Drug Administration should adopt a sunscreen standard on UVA radiation in line with the European recommendation, which maintain a UVA Protection Factor (UVA-PF) to Sun Protection Factor (SPF) ratio of greater than 1 to 3. These standards have been scientifically proven to provide more protection from harmful UV rays than protection that is currently available in the United States.

Access to State of the Art Sunscreen Technology: The Food and Drug Administration should ensure that U.S. consumers have timely, unencumbered access to the state of the art sun protection technology already available in many other parts of the world.  A more efficient process for bringing globally proven sunscreen technology to US consumers would help curb skin cancer.

Truth in Advertising on Sunscreen Labels: The Food and Drug Administration should also ensure that sunscreens are correctly and appropriately labeled. Only products that meet strict testing criteria should be allowed to use the broad-spectrum protection label.

Together we can make it happen. Please join us.
